Are you looking for resources for students in John Jay's online programs? »

Who can use library resources remotely?

Lloyd Sealy Library electronic information resources are accessible from off-campus to John Jay College students, faculty, and staff provided they have a John Jay College email account.

What do I need to access library resources remotely?

To access library resources remotely, John Jay College students, faculty and staff must have a College email account. New students and faculty are automatically assigned email accounts. Visit the Department of Information Technologies (DoIT) Help Desk in L2.73.00NB, call (212) 237-8200, or send an email to helpdesk@jjay.cuny.edu if you are experiencing problems with your email.

You may also use your CUNYfirst credentials an alternate means of accessing databases with a CUNY-wide subscription.

How do I enter my John Jay email username and password?

When you click on the title of a database, you will be prompted for your John Jay email user name and password. Your username is the letters preceeding the @ sign in your email address. For example, the email address for John Smith is john.smith@jjay.cuny.edu. Enter john.smith in the username box.

Newly enrolled and transfer students need to visit the reset password webpage or call the helpdesk (212) 237-8200 in order to create an initial password for their email. Passwords must be changed every 90 days.

If you can't remember your email password or need to change it, you can use the password reset site at http://reset.jjay.cuny.edu.  If you need help, you can call the DoIT office at (212) 237-8200 or email helpdesk@jjay.cuny.edu.

Are there any alternatives for accessing the databases when the John Jay Library web pages are not available?

You may try accessing the databases through the CUNY online resources web page and using your CUNYfirst login credentials. With this method, you only have access to the specific databases that CUNY has purchased for all CUNY libraries

How do I access eReserve materials from a computer off-campus?

To access eReserve (electronic reserve) materials, first open the eReserves page (opens in new window). Click on Reserve Readings from column on the left and enter your professor's last name in the search bar. Click on the Course Number, and enter the course password that your instructor gave to you. Read the copyright notice and click Accept. You will see a list of the course readings.

You need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, or other PDF-viewing software in order to read or print items that are stored as PDF files (many ereserve readings are). If you don't already have it on your computer, you can download Acrobat for free from the Adobe web site.
